Depaul Opera Theatre Presents "L’incoronazione Di Poppea"
Marisa will portray the role of Venere
Directed by Harry Silverstein, with conductor Jason Moy, DePaul Opera Theatre and DePaul Baroque Ensemble will present L’incoronazione di Poppea, one of the many worldwide productions celebrating the 450th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi’s birth. Having first premiered at the 1643 Carnival in Venice, this opera was Monteverdi’s final work, and considered by many to be his finest operatic masterpiece, showcasing the adulterous relationship between the Roman emperor, Nero, and his mistress, Poppea. Love and lust prevail over morality and propriety, culminating with the coronation of Poppea as Nero’s empress and their sensuous love duet “Pur ti miro” – one of the most well-known Baroque pieces of all time.
